So I'm flying to London, enjoying my Sleep-Aid (vodka and diet Sprite) and Snack (Swissy, a pasteurized process cheese spread Swiss-type flavor, and crackers) and I thought I'd type this up.

I noticed the other day that I had made 299 posts in my LJ, and thus the next one seemed like it ought to be a momentous occasion. I thought it was time to do a year-to-date thing anyway, given that the year is half over so why not combine the two?

This is the list of things I typed up to accomplish in 2004 in January - not really resolutions, but goals:

  1. Work out three times a week

  2. I have fairly well been sticking to this one since I started my diet in March. It doesn't happen every week, but I'd say it averages out between the weeks that I don't work out at all, and the ones where I hit the gym every day. So I would put this under the positive category.
  3. Take a yoga class once a month

  4. Not even close. Have yet to so much as set foot in one class. I'm not even doing my yoga on cd all that often. I need to work on this one.
  5. Go to church once a month

  6. Well, I started on this one. [livejournal.com profile] eeeevil_genius and I went to church three or four times at the beginning of the year. I just can't seem to get into the services any more - I used to go because I would feel enlightened and closer to God after the sermon. Now I just feel like I got up early on a Sunday. I had a talk with my sister about it, because I was worried that I was having a crisis of faith. But she helped me to see that I'm not, if anything I'm having a crisis of religion, of dogma, and I can deal with that. Church just isn't a priority for me right now. Maybe it never really will be. Either way, it's off the list for this year.
  7. Play tennis once a month

  8. I would say I'm hitting this one, at least for the last couple of months. Scott's been so great about being willing to learn to play, and I was talking to this guy while I was getting a pedicure today and he was telling me that there is a huge tennis community/league in Atlanta and that it's a great way to meet people, so I'm going to look into that.
  9. Explore Georgia: Stone Mountain, Athens, Savannah

  10. Hmm, well, I've sort of been to Stone Mountain - to see the laser show when [livejournal.com profile] shirecreature came to visit - but I wouldn't say I've been exploring Georgia, so no.
  11. Apply for one job a week.

  12. Haven't quite made this one, but have had other successes in that arena so I'd call it breaking even.
  13. Take a class: French, English Lit, Photoshop, web design, art history, creative writing, scrapbooking, photography

  14. Nope. Haven't even looked into it.
  15. Find out schedule of exhibits at the High Museum and plan to attend one exhibit.

  16. Nope.
  17. Find out schedule for Dad’s Garage and purchase tickets for one play.

  18. Nada.
  19. Try to make a new friend in Atlanta.

  20. Okay, I have been working on this one! I placed an ad on craigslist, and have gotten several response. I went to a cookout and met some interesting people, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] karlita, and today I had coffee with another girl from Alpharetta who I liked a lot.
  21. Catch up on scrapbooking: finish France, Edinburgh, and Everyday through 2002.

  22. I've caught up through 2001 on my Everyday book, haven't made much headway on the others. I think maybe after I finish my writing project - it's taking a large portion of my creative flow right now.

So that's the list I'd made in January... I think I've got other successes that make up for places I'm lagging behind in. The diet is going well - 20 pounds gone! - and I've been going out more, especially to live music venues, and then I've been writing quite a bit this year. So all in all, 2004's a bit of alright so far.

How's your year going?

Very ambitious of you! And congratulations on the weight loss.

My year is going faster than last, which went faster than the one before it. I'm detecting a trend..... (and now have an inkling as to why old people don't seem to ever be in a hurry)

Hope you have a great trip.

Just a note about #3 on you list. I think you should look for a better church and not rule it out completely. But as you well know that is something I make apoint not to excluded. I know you don't have to go to church to still believe and have faith, but if your not doing something on your own and not going to church where does that leave you? Just curious, and I'm only pointing it out because I know you won't take it the wrong way.

On another note.... I would say your having a pretty good year. Have fun in London. Get it ready for my arrival and think of what you want to do for you birthday.
