1. Are you a people watcher?
More of a people-listener. Right now I'm sitting in Chick-Fil-A (long story, not interesting), and it's near a school. These kids are cracking me up! Things I've heard in the last hour: A teenage boy trying to start a conversation about porn and getting shot down, "You know, girls have brains.", and "Which is bigger, a rooster or a chicken?" Good times!

2. Who do you hang out with?
Um. Apparently pre-teens at Chick-Fil-A. Honestly, I haven't been hanging out with people a lot lately. My closest friends have recently started relationships and are kind of cocooned away in their own worlds right now. So I'm pretty much hanging out with myself, and y'all online.

3. Did you work hard this week?
Unfortunately, yes.

4. How do you show a date a good time?
Date? What is this you speak of?

5. What's your favorite rule to break?
Um. I download a lot of music. Does that count?
vixalicious: (Default)
1. Do you consider yourself to be a good housekeeper? Why or why not?
I'd say I'm a mediocre housekeeper - not good, not bad. I can't seem to stop the clutter completely, but I'd say that I don't let it take over.

2. Are there any household chores that you enjoy doing? If so, what and why?
I don't enjoy a chore per se, but I love having a clean bathroom.

3. Which household chore frustrates/angers you the most?
I hate dusting, and I hate that dust can accumulate without me being there.

4. When doing household chores, what do you do to make them seem less of a "chore"?
I call my sister - the handsfree headset is a fantastic invention.

5. Which chore do you find yourself doing most often, and why?
Lately, sweeping - I miss carpets!
vixalicious: (Default)
1. Who was your favorite teacher?
Mrs. Harp

2. Why was that teacher so special?
She treated us like we were people, not kids.

3. Do you think teachers get paid enough?
No, not even close.

4. Do you have a favorite year of school?
Hmm. Probably my freshman year of college for the freedom and the joy of picking what I learned plus the biggest emotional highs and lows - falling in love for the first time and getting my heart broken, the drama of my roommate and close friend getting pregnant and quitting school, etc.

5. If you could travel back in time and tell yourself something now that would have helped you get through school, what would you say?
God, girl, you're not fat!
vixalicious: (Default)
Have you ever been to summer camp? Yes - when I was 7 or 8, I went to Baptist Hill, a bible camp, and then when I was 15 or so, I went to RTI, which was a drug-free camp.

Have you ever made a s'more? Yes, but not at camp.

Have you ever slept under the stars (no tent/tarp)? No, not slept. Sat out under for hours, yes.

Have you ever had a member of the opposite sex sleep over at your house? Well, yes, I have ;)

What type of bed do you have (queen, twin, bunk, etc.) ? Queen

1. What have you said lately that has gotten you into trouble?
I can't think of anything in particular.

2. When is the last time you censored yourself?
If by censoring, you mean thinking twice before you say something, I do that all the time.

3. Describe your last date:
Okay.

4. Go to the closest window -- what do you see?
My back yard - which really needs to be mowed!

5. What's your favorite board game?
Haven't played a board game in forever, but I like Scattergories.
vixalicious: (Default)
1. Who was your first crush?
Rick Springfield. That wife-beater t-shirt on the single of Jessie's Girl was hawt! :D Shut up, I was only 5.

2. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
Introvert, no question.

3. What is your favorite non-sexual thing you like to do with the love of your life?
I don't currently have a love of my life.

4. Name one quirky habit your partner does that either annoys you or makes you grin.
See above.

5. Do you believe in monogamous relationships?
Yes. I wouldn't be good at the polyamorous thing... jealousy meets low self-esteem, it would be ugly. Plus I like the idea of saying 'this is my person, and I'm going to stick with them and they're going to stick with me.' It just works for me.

1. What do you like most: Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays (and why)?
Saturdays - they're full of promise and purpose, and it feels like the whole weekend is stretched out in front of you.

2. What was the best weekend of your life?
I don't know, I've never thought about it.

3. What weekend of the year is your favorite?
Any 3 or 4 day weekend :D

4. Do you have any weekend routines?
Depends on whether I'm travelling or not. Saturday mornings are usually for errands (morning being subjective there), and more often than not there's Sunday brunch with friends

5. Describe your ideal Saturday night.
Okay, since it's ideal - it would be me, with a significant other, having close friends over for dinner and movies or game night, just talking and laughing, with a nice bottle of wine.

[livejournal.com profile] fridayfiver
1. What's your favorite game show to watch?
I don't really watch them very often, but I do like Jeopardy. Give me a regular dose of feeling stupid. :)

2. What game show would you like to be on?
I'd like to be on Wheel of Fortune, but not the one they have today - I want to go on the one where after you win, you shop for things with your money and you always end up with one of those ugly ceramic dalmations.

3. Do you know anyone who has been on a game show?
Not that I know of.

4. What do you think the worst game show is?
Deal or No Deal

5. Bob Barker, Howie Mandel or Alex Trebek?
Bob Barker

I get to go home today, cannot wait! I always feel so isolated when I come up here, because I can't use my cell phone. Plus it's freaking cold! I've been sick this week, but thanks to a Canadian miracle drug (ColdFX) I seem to be getting better.

1. How far back can you trace your family tree?
Personally, to my great-grandparents. But my mom's gone farther back than that, so if I asked I'm sure I could go farther back.

2. What is the most interesting (or strange) thing you've heard about one of your relatives?
My great-aunt on my mom's side was on the Johnny Carson show playing bones (it's a hillbilly thing). I have never seen proof of this, but my mom has told this story for years.

3. How do you feel about legacy names like John Henry Smith IV or naming children after other relatives?
I think naming someone in honor of someone, yet not exactly like them, is better. It gives a sense of tradition while maintaining uniqueness. For example, I am named for my dad's Aunt Janie - Beth Janelle. If I ever have a daughter (highly unlikely), I would like to name her Rose, after my best friend and her family - it's their last name.

4. Would you consider yourself and/or your family to be traditional?
Fairly traditional, yeah. I guess it depends on your definition, but we do have traditions. I like it, it gives a sense of continuity.

5. What is one tradition you have passed on to your children and/or plan to pass on to them?
Again, not planning on it, but if I did, it would be the importance of getting together with your family regularly. My dad's family gets together four times a year, and I think that's been the cornerstone of my family life.

1. American football: good times or couldn't care less?
Couldn't care less. I don't mind to watch it on tv if someone else wants to, and I know the rules, but that's about it.

2. Do you have a favorite sports team?
Nope. I'm genetically required to root for the St. Louis Cardinals, but other than that, I don't get into it.

3. What's your favorite junk food?
Hmm... nachos.

4. Are football players paid too much?
Yes

5. Who do you think will win this year's Superbowl?
I don't know, who's playing?
vixalicious: (Default)
1. What did you eat yesterday?
Um. Oatmeal, a Lean Cuisine meal, and a salad from Willy's Mexican Grill.

2. Are you more likely to yell or give the silent treatment?
Give the silent treatment, although really it's not what it sounds like. I learned how to fight from being around my mom, because she's the only person in my family who yells. And she fights dirty. So when I get mad, the first things that come to my mind are really horrible things to say, things that I don't mean but are designed to deliver maximum hurt in a minimum amount of time. I don't want to be that person, so it's better to hold it in, let myself calm down a bit, and then deal with it more constructively.

3. Who did you last grieve?
A woman who would completely understand why I need to edit this question. For whom did I last grieve? That would be my grandmother, who taught me how to read.

4. What feels good today?
It's 9:30 in the morning, it's too early for things to feel that great. :) Seriously though, I managed to install the NAS drive last night all on my own on my work computer. I had to create it as a network place before I could map the drive to see the files and the instructions so did NOT mention that as an option, so I feel quite clever for figuring it out.

5. Friday fill in: Thank you ___ for ___. Thank you all for always taking the time to comment and let me know you care about the things that are happening in my life.

And now I must go work out, for I have been a lazy bum this week. Later on, there will likely be updates from the car dealership - try to contain your excitement.

1. favorite cereal and why?
Hmm. Mostly I eat Special K for diet purposes, but my favorite cereal is Cocoa Pebbles, cuz they turn the milk to chocolate milk. Yup, I'm 3.

2. what is the best thing about summer?
Hot summer nights and lightning bugs.

3. would you rather have a slurpee or a milkshake?
Milkshake.

4. If you could be a member of any band/musical group, past or present, what band would it be and why?
Oh, god. I don't know. The Dandy Warhols. Because I think they probably have a fucking good time, no matter what they're doing.

5. Who is your idol? What are they famous for?
I don't think I have an idol right now. Usually there's some celebrity that I have a huge crush on and am idolizing, but right now I'm pretty well based in reality - I'm too busy living my life to be hung up on anyone right now, which I think is a good thing. Previous crushes have included Eddie Izzard, John Cusack, Jon from New Kids on the Block, and, uh. Rick Springfield. (in my defense, I was five.)

1. What is your nearest lake or river?
Okay, I believe that the nearest lake is Lanier and the nearest river is the Chattahoochee (sp?), but as I have never been to either, I couldn't say for sure.

2. Do you believe in heaven?
Yes, I do.

3. What's your lucky number?
3

4. Ever know anyone who appeared on a game show?
My brother worked with a girl who was on the second season of Survivor.

5. Charades: good times or lame?
Depends on who you play with! We used to play a game called Celebrity, which is like charades, and it could be a lot of fun.

1) If you had to move 100 miles or more to the north, east, west, or south, which would you choose, where would you end up, and what's so great about there?

Um, dunno. I'm happy in Atlanta, but I guess if I had to move, I've always thought the coast of North or South Carolina would be nice.

2) Do you have a favorite stretch of highway or byway for driving, touring, or wandering?

There's a road that goes from my parents' house to the lake, and when I was a kid I thought it was like riding a roller coaster. I still like it.

3) Are you happier to start a trip or return home?

Both make me happy, but for different reasons. Coming home, I guess - you have the memories of the trip plus a great appreciation for your own space.

4) Plane, train, automobile, bicycle, or foot?

Plane.

5) Do you overplan or underplan your travels? (Assume that "no" is not a valid answer.)

I've done both, and they both have their drawbacks. I'm going to go back to overplanning though... we underplanned the last vacation, the one to Spain, to the point that we bought a guidebook in the Barcelona airport and nearly got ourselves sold into white slavery like Saffie stranded in Morocco.

1) What was the first CD/Record/Album/Artist you ever bought and what format was it in? (Vinyl/Cassette/CD/MP3 Download)?
I believe, although I am not 100% positive, that it was New Kids on the Block. Their debut album, on cassette, in 1989. This would be the first one I can remember that I bought for myself, not as a gift or a hand-me-down.

2) How do you usually listen to music? (iPod/Walkman/Stereo/Radio)
iPod. I call him George.

3) What is your favorite genre of music and why?
Alternative rock. The lyrics. I'm all about the lyrics.

4) What is your opinion on music video shows and music televion?
Back in the day when they actually showed videos, I liked them.

5) Do you usually agree with who the winners of the Grammy Awards are?
I haven't watched the Grammys since I was in high school.

fridayfiver
1) Tell us about where you live:
Apartment complex; used to be a girls high school.

2) If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be?
They wouldn't tear it up in the next four months before I move.

3) Do you do laundry on a regular schedule?
I do laundry when the laundry basket is full or something I want to wear is dirty. Is that a regular schedule?

4) Describe the place that you sleep:
Bright and sunny, cheerful. Colorful.

5) This morning: was it easy or difficult to start the day?
My starts are always difficult. Almost always anyway.

1. What's your favorite candy:
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

2. What's the best scary movie?
The Shining

3. Do you like to be alone at home?
I do... although I used to get freaked out about it when I was younger, because growing up in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, any time there was a fugitive, they seemed to head for us so there were an inordinate number of manhunts in our area. I used to lock myself in my parents' bedroom (because they had a tv) with the cordless phone, a can of aerosol hairspray, and my metal Louisville Slugger bat.

4. Pumpkin pie: eat it or throw it?
Why on earth would you waste good pie by throwing it?

5. The most distasteful Halloween costume you can think of:
Straight men who dress up in drag for Halloween but walk around with hairy legs. If you're going to do it, own it!

[livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive
1) What was the last thing that you ate?
Enchiladas

2) Who was the last person you shared a meal with?
David

3) What is your favorite all time dish (recipes welcome)?
Sesame chicken, vegetable fried rice and crab rangoon. I could ask the take out place for the recipe, but I doubt they'd give it to me.

4) If you could eat one thing for an entire year, what would it be?
Hmm... one thing I'd never get sick of? Nachos.

5) If you could have dinner with any five people (dead or alive) who would they be?
Okay, first off, no zombie jokes! Um, let's see. My grandfather, because he died before I was born and I've heard my whole life what a great man he was. My grandmother, because I miss her. Okay, I can see this quickly turning into a list of my dead relatives, so I'll limit myself there. Um. I feel like I should throw someone historically important in here... Thomas Jefferson, because we spend so much time talking about 'what the framers of the Constitution intended' it would be interesting to talk to one of them. Jimmy Carter, because he's the last politician out there that I think has common sense and integrity. Jon Stewart, because I adore him, and he'd come up with better questions for Thomas Jefferson and Jimmy Carter than I could.

They were late, not me :)

1. How do you deal with stress?

Depends on the stress - working out, talking to a friend, listening to music.

2. Do you have a favorite "comfort food" and what is it?

Anything fried. Hello, high cholesterol!

3. Do you have a "comfort activity" and what is it?

Snuggling under my down comforter on a rainy day.

4. What days depress you and why?

I don't know that specific days depress me... more like occasions, usually when I'm somewhere by myself that I feel uncomfortable being alone

5. What days excite you and why?
Christmas, days I'm visiting my family, vacations... I like the feeling of anticipation, the incipient joy of a new experience.
vixalicious: (Default)
1. Have problems sleeping?
Yes, I do right now! This week has been a little bizarre in the sleep arena.

2. Last dare accepted?
Eeesh... I couldn't say. Chances are it was at some point when I was with Tamii and Debbie... given that the top age we ever act when we're together is about 16, and that's a good day. :D And they're coming to visit week after next so yay.

3. Last dare given?
See above.

4. Are you free with your feelings?
I honestly don't know. I think I wear my heart on my sleeve, but I suspect that I've gotten better at protecting it over the years. It takes me a while to get comfortable with new people, but once I reach that comfort zone, then I think I'm pretty free. So, uh. Maybe?

5. Tell us a lie: I can't think of one.

Guess what, that was a lie :)

Okay, here's a real one: When I was in college, I had to take this first aid course because I was a resident assistant in my dorm. I was really pissed off by it, because it was on a Saturday at 9 am, and we all know how much I love getting up on Saturdays at 9 am. So anyway, I took the course, grudgingly, and basically sat in the back cracking rescusitation doll jokes with my friends. Two weeks later, I was at my job - I was an usher at a music theater - and a man collapsed in the bathroom. They called for assistance, asked for anyone who knew CPR, and I froze. I didn't speak up, didn't want the responsibility, and I knew I hadn't paid enough attention in class to do anything. The man died, and I always felt responsible for it.

Okay, that turned into more of a story than a lie, but it's very early and I'm not really awake yet. The bits that are true: I was an RA, they did want us to take a first aid class but it got snowed out, and men collapsed all the time in the bathroom at the music theater I worked at - Branson attracts the elderly. Everything else is a lie.
vixalicious: (Default)

1. Do you work hard or do you take the easy way out?

Depends on the day and the task. I've got a pretty strong work ethic most of the time, but I think that has to be compensated for. For example, today, I'm taking it pretty easy, but I'm giving up my Saturday to travel for work, so I think that evens out.

2. How's your day going?

So far, so good.

3. How many pairs of shoes do you own?

I've actually downsized quite a bit this year, so I'd say... 25? Not counting the ones I just bought that are too big and I need to return.

4. Do you consider yourself cool?

Nope. Not in the least. And I'm okay with that.

5. What's the last song you listened to?

Is Anybody Home? by Our Lady Peace

vixalicious: (Default)
This week's [livejournal.com profile] fridayfiver
1. Do you smoke?

No, I have mild asthma, and it's never worth it the next day.

2. Are you more likely to be caught humming, whistling or singing to yourself?

Singing. My apologies to those who've had to listen.

3. Have you ever been to New Orleans?

Yes, several times. The last was last July, actually this week.

4. When is the last time you saw the sun rise?

Hmm. I've noticed the sun coming up from the changing light in a room as I'm getting ready for work, but I wouldn't qualify that as watching a sun rise. It's been ages, and I'm way more likely to see it from the other side (ie, Oh shit, the sun's coming up, I should go to bed!).

5. Can you swim?
Yes, although not all that well. I took lessons when I was twelve, and then again in college. My college was on a lake, and they'd had some students drown at some point, so they made it a required course.
