In which I drone on about my writing…
Jan. 25th, 2005 03:09 pmFirst, the plan for this series was that I would write three angst-ridden short stories which featured Orlando as the main character. Each would feature a song by the band Ours, and would have Orlando showcasing an emotion or a characterization that is out of canon. Also, each would have an unhappy ending. The stories are standalone, each with a different pairing.
Miseryhead was the first attempt. It was a Sean/Orlando pairing that was meant to show Orlando as a little immature, and to create the possibility in the reader’s mind that he might commit suicide. It was my first full-length fic, and there are some things I like about it, but I crapped out on the unhappy ending part. I actually wrote an even happier ending to it than what I ended up with, but thankfully my beta talked me out of it.
The middle story was Medication. It was the easiest to write, practically wrote itself, and introduced me to what I’ve found to be *my* pairing – Elijah/Orlando. Elijah is so easy for me to write, his character always – in any story I’ve written him in- seems so open, so clear, so honest for me. I can see what he’s feeling, what he’s thinking, how he wants to react, and how he actually does react. [Just to be clear here, I mean the character, not Elijah himself. I’ve not gone that far ‘round the bend.] I got my unhappy ending down, and was overall quite pleased with the story.
Which brings us to the final installment. Meet Me in the Tower. The one that’s taken me a year and a half to finish. *sigh* Orlando is angry. I chose to pair him with Viggo, which was the perfect pairing for what I had in mind, but omfg can I not write Viggo. I wrote basically 3 scenes that I really liked: Orlando interacting with Liv, Orlando’s fightsex scene, and the ending. Also, I liked the basic plot of unrequited love. The rest of it, eh. I sent it through to be beta’d, and
shrinetolust told me, rightly so, that it needed more to connect the story. I futzed with it for a couple of months. I put it away, wrote other things, didn’t touch it for six months. Took it out, had
eeeevil_genius read through it for glaring inconsistencies, and then put some finishing touches on it. I didn’t send it back to beta, not because I think it didn’t need it, but because I honestly can’t deal with this story any more. I needed it to be done, and to go away. The only reason I haven’t given up on it ages ago, and not completed it? I think it may be the best sex scene I’ve ever written.

I'm Going Home...
Oct. 13th, 2004 07:25 pmSo yeah, London. I've been meaning to do a proper post all week, but have been too preoccupied by work crap and less internet access than usual.
I flew in on Friday, met up with my brother and his girlfriend for dinner. It was my first time to meet her, and she seems quite nice. Not what I was expecting at all, in the best possible sense. Then we went back to his, where his roommate was watching Fellowship of the Ring. So she and I sighed over Aragorn and my brother made smart remarks about hobbit love and I restrained myself from really and truly enlightening him on the subject. My brother so does not need to know about my porn habit. :)
Saturday, I slept in, which was lovely, and then met
kitchencynic for a nice tea (well, tea for her, lunch for me as I am a lazy bitch) and great conversation. Then I ran to get ready for a night out on the town with
sparktastic which was loads of fun as well. We stayed up far, far too late and drank far, far too much wine (including the half bottle we carried through the streets of London). Also, I learned a shortcut to go from Soho to Oxford Street, which I impressed my brother with later in the week :) I'm such the native :)
Sunday dawned way, way too early as I had promised my brother to meet him at his apartment at 9 am to go to the motorcross track. He hired a van and the three of us set off for the track, which is somewhere between Oxford and Reading. He had a great time, and his gf and I kept each other entertained whilst he rode around in circles.

My bro on his bike. Note the small white dots in the background. Those are sheep.
Work was boring and I've already whined enough about it in other posts so I'll skip it now. Monday night, B (brother) and I had dinner and watched a movie in his flat, then last night we went out to the movies and saw "Layer Cake" which I quite enjoyed - it's as if the British remade Ocean's Eleven, except just like in the Great Escape, crap things happen to them instead of American movies where it all works out in the end. It's also in the Lock, Stock, etc, vein, so a bit violent. And the guy in it is a dead ringer for Steve McQueen.
Tonight I met up with a fellow I used to work with and his girlfriend and some of his friends from work. We went and watched England v. Azerbaijan in a pub in Brentford, and it was all good fun. Then we met up with another former colleague (and his girlfriend - everyone's freaking coupled up on me!) for drinks and dinner.
So all in all a good visit! But I'm still ready to go home. Having a good English fry up in the morning, then it's off to the airport - the right freaking one this time round - and off HOME!!!

Orlando, "romantic" sounds like another way of saying "bad."
Elijah, you and I need to talk about your fantasies
Sean B, see Elijah's comment above.
Karl, I'd have freaked out too. I forgive you.
Dom, see Elijah's comment above
And Billy is quite observant.

Feb. 27th, 2004 12:01 amI was explaining to
shirecreature that I'm currently lusting after Dom Monaghan because I can't resist a man in eyeliner. So I wanted to find a pic to show her but I can't find any... help?
I did find this one he just looks hot.
Also, was I the only one who was wondering if Rosie or Ellen would get married first? Rosie wins!
