vixalicious | Take a hike!

Oh, it sounded like a good idea... a 6 mile hike to the ocean, easy trail, etc. What I should have remembered is that a) I am basically an indoor girl, and b) my right knee has not been happy with me for some time now.

Actually, it was a good time. Just a little steeper than I was expecting.

I saw lots of wildlife: there were lizards

, spiders, jack-spaniards (a fancy name for wasps), tree snails, and deer

... no wild donkeys though, damn the luck. Next time, maybe.

So I hauled myself back up to the very top of the hill and was rewarded with an ice cold drink and this view:

Completely worth it, I think.

Then I completed my day with a first for me: I hitched a ride back into town. The people at the restaurant talked me into it; apparently it is the way everyone gets around the island, and is still super safe here. I caught a ride with a lovely woman who took me all the way into town, and it was really a lovely experience. Should you want to try it yourself the next time you are on St. John, the key is to point in the direction you want to go rather than sticking your thumb out.
