I have been forever lamenting the lack of locally-owned coffeehouses in the suburbs of Atlanta; out here it's Starbucks or nothing.
If you find yourself in the Highlands at some point, I would recommend Java Vino (directions here). Cute, quirky, and they have reliable wi-fi -- ask for the password when you make a purchase -- and good coffee. Also, as their name suggests, they have a selection of wine for when work gets to be too much.
