Weekend Update, a few days late...
Apr. 11th, 2007 01:54 amI figured I'd take advantage of the fact that I seem to have insomnia this week, and post the post I've been meaning to do since yesterday morning.
So Friday was my sister's 50th birthday. It's a bit weird, because I never think of her as old, and 50 is AARP age. We decided that her mental age is somewhere in the range of 17, which is a good thing. Mine seems to be 12, so she's still my big sister :D For her birthday, we went out for cake, then shopping and then to a movie - The Namesake, which was very good, definitely recommended.
On Saturday we went on a MARTA pub crawl organized by![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
aubieturtle and had an absolutely fantastic time! The idea was to take the subway (an underused form of transportation here in Atlanta) and go to bars that were within walking distance of the stations. There were about 30 people (maybe more, I could never keep up and we gained and lost people as we went along), and we went to several great places. Two I definitely plan to go back to, an Irish pub in Brookhaven where the food smelled heavenly, and a Midtown bar called Element where the music was cool but quiet enough you could still have a conversation. My sister and I had such a great time that we stayed out a liiiiiitle too late - we missed the last train back to Decatur! Shame on MARTA - no posted schedules of train times in the station, and no announcements over the PA or the displays that the trains had stopped running, so it took us a while to figure it out. Wouldn't have been the end of the world, except they LOCK THE STATIONS DOWN apparently. All entrances. We had to call 911 to get out! Ah, well, it wouldn't be a Beth-and-Joann adventure if there hadn't been a part where we were in imminent danger.
She went home on Sunday, and I'm back to my quiet little life. I bought a bunch of furniture at IKEA today and they're meant to deliver it tomorrow so I'm sure I'll spend the next few days cursing as I try to apply a little Scandinavian Simplicity to my life.
