Traveling Thoughts

As I write this, it is Monday afternoon, a Bank Holiday so no work, and I have arrived in the village of Barton-on-Sea. It's been quite the experience to get here. I think I came on every possible form of tranportation except for boat and rickshaw. I got into London yesterday, no problems on the flight except for that I always seem to get seated next to the largest possible person on the plane. I felt bad for her, because I was uncomfortable, but she had to be miserable - airplane seats are not very accomodating size-wise! Anyway, I got here, went to my brother's and took a quick shower and then we were out the door to go to a barbecue that some of his friends were having. They were lovely and I had a great time, though by the end of it, the jetlag was kicking in and I was getting a bit punchy.
Today, I started out for my hotel at about noon, thinking I'd be giving myself plenty of time to get down here and look around. I ended up taking the tube, 4 different trains, a bus and a taxi to get here! It must have been the most circuitous route possible, I swear. I will definitely have to plot out my return to Gatwick with more care than I did this journey. I always just think 'Oh, I'll just ask at the station and they'll tell me where I need to go.' Mistake, I'm thinking!
I'm not actually staying where I'm working this week, which I knew before I came, but didn't really give much thought. I'm staying in a bed and breakfast. And it's very cute. But it's in someone's house, which is a bit of a weird feeling, and there's no phone. Let me say that again. There's no phone. And no phone means no internet, which means y'all ain't gonna be seeing a whole lot of me this week, just what I can squeeze in during the workday.
But on the plus side, the room is pretty, and quite large, and the bathtub is ginormous for an English hotel. Also, there's a lovely bay window that looks out onto the street, so I am sitting in it watching the cars and people go by outside as I wait for my phone to charge up enough so that I can go for a walk.
Yes, I could go for a walk without the phone, but I'm waiting for a call from my manager, and I don't want to miss it because she's calling to talk about the position for which I'm interested in applying.
In other news, I'm finally changing the name on my journal again. I had it on the Dogs Die in Hot Cars lyrics (I just don't wanna die like a fool, I'm not lost, I'm somewhat off the way) for a long time because they just felt so right for where I was, but now I'm going with Train for a bit (some day you're gonna wanna come back and you're gonna wanna treat me fine, everybody needs a little respect, everybody needs a little time). I don't know why. I just listened to it while I was waiting to catch my fourth train today, and it felt right somehow.
