*I'd just like to not have to pay $80 for them.

Is there a reason why you still have a land line phone? Is cell reception that bad where you live?

I work from home, and often have to make international calls. Vonage was a much better, cheaper solution than trying to get a cell plan with enough daytime minutes not to eat me out of house and home.
